Evin Prison authorities have refused
all medicine and medical care for Mr. Kazemeini Boroujerdi. The report suggests
that he continues to deteriorate, suffering currently from shortness of breath,
heart disease, kidney stones, and pains in the legs and lower back, and is in need
of immediate medication and physician treatment. Yet the authorities continue
to refuse him all medicines and medical care, and instead continuously pressure
this prisoner of conscience to compromise his principles and accept the terms
of surrender dictated by the regime. These pressures are the latest attempt by
this tyrannical regime to silence Mr. Hossein Kazemeini Boroujerdi, this
tireless fighter for reform and justice, from continuing his Campaign from
inside the prison.
In the second part of Article 22 of
the Convention on the Rights of Prisoners, it says: “Ill prisoners who need
specialist treatment and professional care should be transferred to specialized
institutions or civil hospitals outside the prison. These hospital should have
enough equipment, supplies and appropriate medical specialists trained to give
medical care and treatment.”
Human Rights
and Democracy in Iran condemn this denial of needed medications and medical
treatment to this freedom-loving clergyman by the Special Court for Clergymen
which is responsible for the suppression of all freedom-loving clergymen in
Iran.
We Request that Human Rights Watch
and the High Commissioner for Human Rights take prompt action and hold the
Iranian leadership, including Mr. Ali Khamenei, responsible for all their
violations against international rights treaties.
