The
Organization of Human Rights and Democracy Activists in Iran reports that a
number of the supporters of Ayatollah Kazemeini-Boroujerdi are being
systematically fired from their jobs.
This
wave of terminations began three months ago, prior to the elections in Iran and
so far three of the female supporters of the detained cleric, have been ousted
from their respective positions. Fatemeh Sawmeni, Zahra Abdollahvand and Maryam
Azimi, were each employed by private and non-governmental companies, and
despite their individual track record of excellence and professionalism were
discharged without any prior notice.
Of
the three ladies, one made inquiries about the reason for her dismissal, to
which the employer had replied: “I am exceedingly satisfied with the quality of
your work, however I have been forced to discharge you!” The lady had then
further inquired by asking if it was due to pressures from the Ministry of
Intelligence and Security, that had lead to such a move; her employer could
only respond by keeping silent and hanging his head in shame.
It
is worth noting that on the previous Monday, July 8th, Mr.
Boroujerdi endured another round of harsh interrogations which
lasted well into Tuesday morning. During that session, other than the
psychological pressure, he was also severely tortured, beaten and the torturer
agents involved had demanded that he pen a letter of repentance.
Mr.
Boroujerdi who has remained in prison since 2006, without the possibility of
medical furlough, now suffers from various ailments which worsen as a result of
the regular torture and the prohibition on all medical treatment and prescribed
medication. He has developed malnutrition, diabetes, kidney stone, heart
disease, resulting in respiratory disorder and the intense swelling of the
legs, knees a joints.
Human
Rights and Democracy Activists in Iran condemns the threats and the oppression
inflicted on Mr. Kazemeini-Boroujerdi and his supporters at the hands of the
Ministry of Intelligence and Security of the Iranian regime, and calls on all
international human rights and civil rights organizations to follow suit.
